24 – The Wedge

A wedge has two ’sides’.
One’s thin, the other, thick.
Which side you use determines your results.

Take something you want to do, or ’should’ do, but somehow, haven’t got around to doing, …well, why not?
You’re looking at the thick side of the wedge!
This means you think you have to do-it-all-at-once.
You don’t even bother to start until you can do-it-all-at-once.
And you don’t get around to doing things.

TURN the Wedge around to the thin side.
That’s it! That’s all there is to ‘doing it’
Starting off slowly.
If you ‘should’ be cleaning a room, start by tidying up some small part.
Or if you ‘should’ be filling out a form or report, take the paper, sit somewhere and stare at it.
Then, seeing as you’re sitting there, might as well get a ball-point out.
BUT do NOT think (the thick side) that you’re going to do-it-all-at-once, and, oops, darn, but I don’t have time now, so I’ll put it off for later. As usual.

Do the smallest part first.

It’s the thread that pulls the cord,
that pulls the rope,
that pulls the cable,
that pulls the chain,
that pulls the Ocean Liner.

Hi George, the one that helped me the most so far is “The Wedge”. Every time I have a big job to do I think about it.

    Thanks

    Hi George,
I was checking email this morning and thinking that I have a full plate and I have to get this all done by a certain date. It has been a little overwhelming.
As I went into saved mail I saw the email with the numbers and picked one, but as I was going to click on it my attention was drawn to 24 instead.
I am now taking a deep breath, starting with the small stuff and I no longer have a deadline.

    Thank you

    Debra
