This ratio is a key to success. Yet so very few follow it. The two main aspects of business /marriage /leadership etc. are Relationships and Task. Most businesses /people /organizations are usually either Relationship oriented or Task /rules /regulations oriented. And that’s fine… provided the ratio is close to 51 Task and 49 Relationship. Relationship oriented people always go the ‚extra mile‘ and give everything away or forgive every error no matter what. Task oriented people install the extra rule or regulation, just to be sure. And that’s where it goes wrong. It’s not that your way is ‚wrong‘. It isn’t! However Too much Relationship stuff and you eventually close shop. Too much Task stuff and you get extremely high turnover or outright rebellion (strikes, drugs, etc.). So, first determine which you are. Then deliberately ‚avoid‘ being that way. And given your built-in bias, you move faster towards 51/49 and success. ————————– These are related: # 27 Responses – 29 Who’s in Charge? – 71 Nice – 86 Don’t be Yourself! – 96 Habits 160 Combination – 264 Charge & Pay

„What are you doing?“ a stranger asks.
Making Huge Fruit.
„Hmm, looks like you’re just turning some dirt upside down.“
A while later.
„Now what are you doing?“
Making Huge Fruit.
„You’re putting too many seeds at any one place.“
They don’t all catch.
„Still, …and you’re burying them in the dark.
You need sunlight to make things grow. Everyone knows that.“
A while later.
„Looks like you’re watering the dirt.“
I am.
„How do you know any gets to the seeds?“
Soon enough a small green shoot emerges from the soil /darkness.
„You can’t eat those. And they are so small almost anything can destroy them.“
And still you water.
Then, over time, the shoot becomes a stem,… with nothing on it.
„Can’t eat a stem …You’re wasting your time.“
And still you water it.
Then one day there’s huge fruit on the plant.
„How lucky you are to have such huge fruit.“

262 Water Pump
Water waits to be pumped up for our use.
It is not mean, nor does it have anything against you.
The water responds exactly to your actions.
No more, and NO less.
And that’s where you don’t get it.
Start pumping /working and the water starts to rise. Results start to happen.
Keep on working — with no (visible!) results and the water keeps rising.
However the instant you stop pumping, the water starts to recede.
Sick? Tired? Discouraged? Fed Up?
It doesn’t matter, the water recedes.
When you get ‚motivated‘ and try again, the work is the same as the first time you pumped the water.
And you say „This is never going to work. Here I am, my sixth time pumping, and still no results.
Nothing is happening.“
So, what do successful people do, that you don’t?
They don’t stop pumping.
No matter the reason.

258 M or W
Almost everything is either an M or a W.
The left side of the M (or W) is January, the middle is July/August and the right December.
Tourism is a W.
High travel time is December/January and July/August.
Low travel times with the highest/best discounts are March/April and October/November.
Airlines and ships give discounts at these times.
Ok, so?
If business is low /slow in August (M), you have a couple of things you can do.
Go on vacation, take it easy and come back when things are up.
OR
Keep going, knowing business is down, but not down to ’nothing‘.
I started in a business (an M) in 1967.
Montreal hosted Expo 67, a World’s Fair, over the summer months!
Within three years I was the first President of the first Canadian subsidiary of a world wide Corporate Group.
Guess whether I took the summer off.
So, determine whether your business /situation is an M or a W and then choose to ignore it.
And succeed.
