This one is so simple, yet almost no one does it! When listening to someone speak, make a note of the idea /thing that causes you to think. That way you can keep on listening without missing anything. Usually you start to think about whatever was just said … at the expense of the next things being said. The exact same thing applies when you have an idea as someone speaks to you. Have them wait a moment until you somehow make a mental note of that idea. Then you freely continue to pay attention because you are comfortable that the idea is not lost. This way you can listen to a lot more than you otherwise would, because you simply have no need to think about what was just said. Time enough later when you review your notes, mental or otherwise. ————————– These are related: # 9 Worry – 55 Oxygen – 117 Gold Mine – 123 Ignorance – 130 Collecting Solutions

269 Circle
This one needs a lot of help to execute.
Look at the related Doodles.
———————————————-
A picture is worth a 1,000 words.
An experience is worth 1,000 pictures.
Tell me and I may forget.
Show me and I might remember.
Let me experience it and I incorporate it into every decision from then on.
Ok, so?
The fear of getting it wrong usually stops me from trying it.
Somehow I have to get it right the very first time.
So I may think about it, but I don’t dare actually do /experience it.
In case I’m wrong /fail /look foolish.
Yet it is this very experience that makes you, well … experienced.
Next time, resolve to step out of this circle and just do it.

265 Before
Danny was my secretary.
He would type my letters (1970’s!).
And he’d make a mistake on almost every one.
„Danny, do you check these letters for errors?“
Well, I can always correct them.
„That’s not the point. Correct them before you give them to me.“
OK, why say this?
Many people un-consciously believe that to correct an error after you point it out, shows how valuable they are. How much they are doing to help you.
My modern Danny sends me passwords or site URLs that simply do not work.
Each time with a different reason as to why not, and an immediate correction.
Why not check before giving it to me?
Because then it would be perfect and I would not notice just how valuable that person was.
A supposed clever ploy
is really
Too annoying to do repeat business with.
Check your work before handing it to someone.

262 Water Pump
Water waits to be pumped up for our use.
It is not mean, nor does it have anything against you.
The water responds exactly to your actions.
No more, and NO less.
And that’s where you don’t get it.
Start pumping /working and the water starts to rise. Results start to happen.
Keep on working — with no (visible!) results and the water keeps rising.
However the instant you stop pumping, the water starts to recede.
Sick? Tired? Discouraged? Fed Up?
It doesn’t matter, the water recedes.
When you get ‚motivated‘ and try again, the work is the same as the first time you pumped the water.
And you say „This is never going to work. Here I am, my sixth time pumping, and still no results.
Nothing is happening.“
So, what do successful people do, that you don’t?
They don’t stop pumping.
No matter the reason.
