Ok, so?

If Hard Work ‚works‘ then you face a future with more of it.

And   you   don’t   want   that.

Sooo, you simply do not succeed.

And save yourself from a future you don’t want.

(Of course, you stay where you are!)

Athlete training sessions are Hard Work.

However they always end up after the „Hard Work“ with a feeling of satisfaction, /fulfillment, etc.

And that you want.

Either look for the satisfaction in your Hard Work

or

Stop working hard thinking it leads to an acceptable future.

All research and re-writes are done long before you read the article /book.

Ok, so?

All you see is people who glide through their jobs, effortlessly.

The actor, the author, smiling and relaxed.

We draw a silent conclusion that to succeed ‚all‘ we need is a chance, a break, etc.

In actuality what you need is the sweat that prepares you.

Which you can do now.

Every day.

Immediately.

Rather than wait for someone to give you a nod.

You see no sweat because they already did theirs.

You?

Yet so very few follow it. The two main aspects of business /marriage /leadership etc. are Relationships and Task. Most businesses /people /organizations are usually either Relationship oriented or Task /rules /regulations oriented. And that’s fine… provided the ratio is close to 51 Task and 49 Relationship. Relationship oriented people always go the ‚extra mile‘ and give everything away or forgive every error no matter what. Task oriented people install the extra rule or regulation, just to be sure. And that’s where it goes wrong. It’s not that your way is ‚wrong‘. It isn’t! However Too much Relationship stuff and you eventually close shop. Too much Task stuff and you get extremely high turnover or outright rebellion (strikes, drugs, etc.). So, first determine which you are. Then deliberately ‚avoid‘ being that way. And given your built-in bias, you move faster towards 51/49 and success. ————————– These are related: # 27 Responses29 Who’s in Charge?71 Nice86 Don’t be Yourself!96 Habits 160 Combination264 Charge & Pay

It is not mean, nor does it have anything against you.
The water responds exactly to your actions.
No more, and NO less.

And that’s where you don’t get it.

Start pumping /working and the water starts to rise. Results start to happen.

Keep on working — with no (visible!) results and the water keeps rising.
However the instant you stop pumping, the water starts to recede.
Sick? Tired? Discouraged? Fed Up?
It doesn’t matter, the water recedes.

When you get ‚motivated‘ and try again, the work is the same as the first time you pumped the water.
And you say „This is never going to work. Here I am, my sixth time pumping, and still no results.
Nothing is happening.“

So, what do successful people do, that you don’t?
They   don’t   stop   pumping.
No matter the reason.

I call one person and ask her how she is doing.

“Excellent. I’m working very hard. I couldn’t fit in another thing.

And I can’t think of anyway I could become more effective or efficient.”

Because she thinks that’s the best way to be promoted.

I reply “Oh, that’s too bad, because I need someone to run the business but I guess you are too busy.

And even if you can somehow make some time, you can do nothing to improve the place.“

Are you or have you made yourself irreplaceable?

Too bad, no promotion for you because they can’t do without you where you are.

Maybe less perfect and less busy would give you what you want.

223 One Hour https://mentaldoodle.com/?p=625&lang=de https://mentaldoodle.com/?p=625&lang=de#respond Fri, 27 May 2011 01:25:24 +0000 http://mentaldoodle.com/?p=625 There are 24 hours in a day. Everyday.

The % of time you devote to create your future = the % probability you’ll have that future.

One hour a day is a tremendous amount of time.

First eliminate the ‚constants‘

8 hours sleep

2 hours eat/groom

2 hours travel

8 hours work

The 4 hours left are your variable.

So to invest just One Hour – not on ‚maintenance‘ – a day,

represents 25% of your time, …creating your future!

What progress do you make when you do that elsewhere?

Computer games, hobby, etc. (Look at your ‚results‘ You got there a bit at a time)

Now it’s time to invest One Hour in your future

The first 20 minutes or so, you settle in. (Stay with it!)

The next 20 minutes, you barely start to become effective

(Make those calls, Write that article/book, Brainstorm your invention, etc.)

Don’t stop! The last 20 minutes are usually the most productive.

It takes the first 40 minutes to make the last 20 minutes most effective.

Invest One Hour in your future.

Consider the alternative…

„Not if the pay is good.“

Alright, then dig this ditch. It should take a few days.

„OK, the ditch is dug.“

Do you want more work?

„Sure.“

Then fill up the ditch.

„Are you sure?“

Yes.

„OK, it’s your money.“

(A few days later) „OK, that’s done, now what.“

Dig it up again.

„What?!“

Do you want the job or not?

„Well, sure, but this is silly. All I’m doing is digging and filling the same ditch over and over.“

Yes.

So why say this.

Our work may seem repetitive but we see it as digging deeper / longer.

Not as dig, refill, dig, refill, etc.

Whatever you’re doing in life has meaning to you or you would not be doing it.

Then again, maybe it used to have meaning yet you find yourself still doing it.

Hmmm, review time?

AND kept trying different things on the side.

It made no difference when they did not ‚work‘ because they were my Second Thing.

When ordering a Pizza one Sunday night around 9 pm I was told it would be 45 minutes.

I asked why.

Because they were really backed up with Deliveries. (Their Second Thing)

If you are not satisfied with your situation you need a Second Thing.

A Part-time hourly job is simply an extension of your First thing.

(And a Lottery is an illusion.)

By the end of 1966 I tried Direct Sales as my 17th (!) Second Thing.

Within four months I earned just over $1,000. That month.

(My 16 previous efforts obviously contributed to my current speed-of-success.)

Then I gave up my First thing.

Almost by definition a Second Thing is something that is NOT whatever you do as your First thing.

It’s something with a variable in it.

Don’t give up your day job,

ADD a Second Thing to your life in total safety.
