A friend of mine in England asked me to buy him an ‘American’ wallet /billfold.
“Why?”
“They are designed for American money which is less wide than our money.
It results in a slimmer wallet.”
On my
next visit I brought him an ‘American’ sized wallet.
And charged him the $12.95 I paid for it. (Approximately £8 — € 9.40)
Not a lot of money, compared to the cost of the trip.
Maybe equal to 3 or 4 cups of coffee at a fancy coffee place.
He was surprised I would do this.
Then he thought about it and said,
“How clever. If I do not pay anything then I’d be really reluctant to ask you for anything ever again.
This way I feel OK.”
Charging and /or paying for something is often the far better thing to do, than just saying “Forget it.”
