All relationships add up to 100%.
Relationships work best and last longest when they’re balanced.
I learned everything there is to know about Madonna /Elvis /The Beatles.
My desire is to have a 100% relationship with him /them.
And their desire is also to have a 100% relationship with me.
Only their 100% is about a million times less than mine!
So their idea of a balanced relationship is to smile at me as they walk by.
Mine is to marry them or at least date them. And I’d ask them a lot of questions and tell them a lot of things about me.
But they don’t want that extent of a relationship.
So it effectively is an unbalanced situation. 99% on my part and 1% (at most!) on theirs.
And that simply doesn’t last.
After all, I get a smile from everyone I walk by — just by smiling myself.
Same with my car, my Television, my ‘partner’, and almost every thing in my life.
If I have to fill my tires with air every time I use the car…
If I constantly spend time and money on repairs, at some point I get rid of it.
I not only have to cajole you to go out, I also have to find a place to go /movie to see. I have to figure the timing and ways to reorganize my time so we can finally go out, and you say, “Fine, whatever, I don’t care where we go /what movie we see.”
How long is that relationship going to last? I can get that anywhere!
For things to change put more effort (or less!) into that relationship and see how quickly it happens.
