Do it

460 Volume Works

One half of the Ceramics class was asked to make a ‘perfect’ vase,

the other half’s goal was to make as many as possible, in the same time period.

Guess who ended up making the nicest vase.

The Volume half. They ‘unconsciously’ noticed things each time they made one that could be improved in the next one. (Art & Fear, David Bayles and Ted Orland)

Ok, so?

Being only goal oriented — write that book, take the perfect photo, paint a perfect picture, etc. — is not enough.

It’s the amount of trial-and-error you do that creates the foundation to reach your goal.

A goal, when combined with Volume, works.

Write a line, take a picture, dab paint on the canvas, …do it!
