20 The Gift of Knowledge

A 7 year old asked, “Lord, Lord, tell me my future.”
“You don’t really want to know.” came the reply.
“Yes, I do. Tell me my future.”
“Alright. You’re going to stop eating Jelly Beans and start liking girls.”
“Yuck!” said the boy.

At 17 the boy said, “Lord, now I understand. Tell me my future.”
“You don’t really want to know.” came the reply.
“Yes, I do. Tell me my future.”
“Ok. You will settle down with only one girl. And you will work very hard at a job.”
“Phooey!”

At 27 he said, “Lord, now I understand. Tell me my future.”
“You don’t really want to know.” came the reply.
“Yes, I do. Tell me my future.”
“You’ll divorce her and fight for custody.”
“Ouch!”

At 37 he said, “Lord, now I understand. Tell me my future.”
“You don’t really want to know.” came the reply.
“Yes, I do. Tell me my future.”
“You’ll marry someone just like her because you haven’t learned your lesson.”
“Oh no!”

At 47 he said, “Lord, now I understand. I no longer want to know my future.”
“Then let me tell you.
You are going to have a very good life.”
