My wife and I go to my best friend’s home for his surprise Birthday party.
And we are fighting. We fight as only real married couples can.
Once at the party, we take a second and compose ourselves.
At first when we ring the bell we put on a ‘ritual’ face and manner.
Stiff, awkward hand shakes and smiles all around. Soon it’s easier to do. In a short while we are genuinely happy for our friend and this successful surprise.
When we leave the party we get into the car and look at each other, and decide whether we should resume our fight!
Most times we decide not to.
And even if you do resume — at first there’s very little ‘heart’ in it. Your fight seems shallow.
But once you get into it again, you’re fine.
Don’t worship your emotions just because you have them.
You can change unwanted ones by deliberately doing something else: go to a movie, play music, call a friend etc.
You have to interact with someone /something else. Then the emotion has no ‘Feed’ and withers.
