121 Carrot & Stick

No good trainer ‘trains’ using a stick. Not one.
Behavior that’s rewarded is repeated.
So how do you train yourself?
Do you chastise yourself when you do something undesirable?
Why?
Do you think that by being hard on yourself you’ll learn faster?
If that’s true then why don’t all the best trainers use a stick?

 

After your next mistake, check how many times you make this particular mistake.
If it’s just this once, let it go.
If many times, check if you chastise yourself with a ‘stick’.
Doesn’t work, does it!
So try giving yourself a reward. Silly as it sounds.
Consciously give yourself a reward fully knowing you are going against instinct. And setting a precedent.
To reward yourself after making this mistake is to show yourself that you don’t have to punish yourself to change.
You’ve tried everything else, why not give this a chance.
